Women in the Media
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tina Apik

Tina Apik, is a 49-year-old Builsa born in Sandema, a Christian and married with two children. She is a reporter, producer, compiles news bulletins and reads the Business News at GBC. She is a member of Women in Broadcasting; an organisation for promoting the welfare of women and improving the professional standards of members through international conferences, workshops and networking and also a member of International Association Of Women In Radio And TV (IAWRT).

She really draws a lot of inspiration from what she does, i.e. her work as a journalist, as it keeps her busy and makes her feel fulfilled. Nevertheless, the lack of certain necessities, like computers, vehicles and even recorders make the work quiet difficult. (There were actually no curtains in her office, not to even talk about an air conditioner. Her office was very warm and uncomfortable).

In future, she hopes to set up a broadcasting house owned by women. She hopes to cater for her children to the level they can attain.

She looks forward to seeing women attain greater heights and be well organised to fight for the course of other women especially those at the grassroots, to improve their standard of living.

She is particularly shaken by the plight of ‘kayayei’s’ who are subjected to all kinds of abuses and hopes there will come a time when all these abuses will be controlled and also wishes poverty alleviation will be backed with action and not only be paid a lip service.
