Women in the Media
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rebecca Kwei
Rebecca Kwei is a news reporter at Graphic Communications Group, Mirror. She is single and holds a Diploma in Journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ).
Right from childhood, she liked reading, liked newscasters, and so wanted to be a journalist. She however did science in the Senior Secondary School and diverted to journalism, her dream profession afterwards.
She is happy with her work particularly for the reason of disseminating information to affect people’s lives. She is glad to say the ecstasy is still there. She wants to go back to school to read a bachelor's and master's degree in communication studies to broaden her horizon.
She does a lot of writing on women and children’s issues especially on health and educates them on their rights and other things. She does this because she is a woman and so feels what women feel and she loves children as well, but more importantly, she does what she does for the good of the entire society of which women are a majority.
She draws a lot of inspiration from interviews she conducts with successful women. From them she has picked bits and pieces to make her a better person. She believes with hard work and determination, she can make it.
She loves reading, watching movies, listening to music and helping people.
She hopes there will come a time when obstacles that prevent women from becoming what they want to be will be eliminated with cultural practices that inhibit their success, and women will aspire for higher positions without fear.
She hopes Ghanaian leaders would reflect on the past and make amends for the future for a better Ghana for our children’s children. They should also make the education and grooming of the youth a priority so they could take up the mantle as future leaders. Ghanaians must work harder, stop corrupt practices, be ready to work hand-in hand with others and be each other’s keepers.
