Women in the Media

Jayne Buckman-Owoo
Miss Jayne Buckman-Owoo is a catholic born on September 11, 1973 in Accra, is single and has one dependant. She had her secondary education at St. Mary’s Secondary School and her sixth form at Accra Academy school. She holds a Diploma in Journalism from Ghana Institute of Journalism.
She is a reporter and does reviews, gathers news items, writes news stories and does profiles in Graphic Showbiz. She is a gospel reporter as well, at TV Africa. She has worked hard to receive awards such as 2006 CEVAL award’s best gospel reporter and best actress award NAFTI in 2000.
Miss Buckman-Owoo wants to see women being more independent in all aspects of their lives and being at the helm of affairs at work places. She thinks women are more responsible and so perform more creditably when entrusted with roles. She thinks women organisations are making a headway in bridging the gap between women and men in formal employment but there is a lot more to be done. Women who have been able to rise to high positions should prove themselves more effective to encourage other women as well and build the trust reposed in them. She agrees to a quota system for a balance in the running of affairs in the country; for women are part of the country’s make up and so must be involved as equally as men are.
She hopes that in future more women will be part of the decision-making bodies in the country since they are more emotional and so will care for the needs of the poor and vulnerable in the society.
She will do everything in her power to make her son more comfortable, well educated and very responsible in society.
