Women in Academia
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Christiana Adusei-Poku

Mrs Elizabeth Abbey is a 48year old woman who hails from Akuapim Aburi in the Eastern Region of Ghana. She is a Seventh Day Adventist and is married with two boys and a girl and two other dependants. She teaches business subjects at Accra Academy and has taught for 26years.

She holds a degree from the University of Education Winneba in Accounting and Management In Living. She is the head of the business department, form mistress, counsellor, patron (S.D.A Student Union) and the teacher’s welfare secretary at Accra Academy. As a Christian woman she has served as the Women’s leader both at the local and district levels and has also been the treasure for her local church.

Talking of challenges she mentioned that her being a mother, teacher and occupying other positions makes her packed with things to do always. One role affects the effective performance of the other.

To her, she was created by God, making her accountable to Him. Therefore whatever her hands find doing she will do it with all her heart, mind and strength as service to God and country.

In future, she hopes to advance in her teaching career to lecture at the university and also set up an educational centre to train children and give employment to others while in the long run leaving the school as a legacy for her children to continue. Her vision for Ghanaian women is for them to get well educated in order to take good care and give sound moral training to their wards while being icons of peace in society.
